PPG Wave 2.3
German engineering at it's finest; this is the BMW of mid '80's synthesizers. Designed by Wolfgang Palm (earilier versions include the pre-MIDI, 8-bit Wave 2.2) the Wave 2.3 is a 12-bit wavetable synthesizer with a 24dB/Octave analog filter. The Wave 2.3 can also accept sampled waveforms and was meant to intergrate with the Wave Term A/B (a sampler/additive synthesis type device release by PPG). Not many Wave 2.3's were built (under 1000?), as they were an an uppercrust device, not easily affordable by most musicians.
Average Advertised Price: $1800 to $2200 is what I've seen.
Jetboy's Humble Opinion Of Worth: I'm surprised at how well the PPG has held onto it's value. Although it is a beautiful instrument, quite rare and and still sonically snappy I would have to place a more realistic value of $1200 on it. My reason being that Mr. Palm still makes PPG Wave-a-likes in the MicroWave series, as his new company is none other than Waldorf. Therefore, the sound synthesis concepts of the Wave 2.3 still exist in new products, making the PPG more important as a historical piece than a rare instrument.
Jetboy's Review - I've always loved the look and layout of the PPG. A large two-line LCD display, yet still a healthy supply of knobs and buttons. It just begs to be tweaked.PPG Wave 2.3 review: I happen to be owner of a P.P.G. Wave 2.2(upgraded to 2.3) and of a Waveterm B. I am a keyboard player, sound designer and music programmer.I honestly have never seen ,touch or play any instument or music production system that has a...soul other than P.P.G. Seriously I believe that the sound of P.P.G. is unique,as is the editing and combiprogramm creation and especially the filtering of the waveforms. Umfortunatelly there is a malfunction I experience latelly on the Wave 2.2 which when turned on behaves strangely and produces random sounds or no sound at all, could you PLEASE send me any relative information of where can apply for any help or servicing at all?I would be more than greatfull.
Thanking you in advance and congatulating you for your excellent idea
Sincerelly yours
