SynthSite - Huge online
resource to Vintage Synthesizers, excellent discussion forums, classified
site, etc. If you are into synths than you need to visit this site
(just don't forget about your pal Jetboy, Ok). Only downside is
that much of the posted info about vintage synths on the site is
not proofed for errors so much inaccurate information exists there.
Audio Playground / Synth
Museum - This non-profit museum, run by Joseph Rivers in Orlando,
is a must visit for any synth lover. Joseph has a great site dedicated
to the museum and you can arrange to visit the museum in person
(worth the travel!!). Joseph also has virtual interactive drum machines
on the website with more to come (very cool!).
SynthZone - Another excellent
synth resource with lots of good links.
Music Machines - An
excellent all around general synth site. Lots of resources and pictures.
Analogue
Heaven - This is a very active mailing list for analog synths.
Lots of great info is thrown around here like mashed potatoes in
a food fight, so bring your appetite and dig in...
MidiWall - Mark Pulver's Site
- A really cool site which features various synth related subjects.
Mark has lots of cool toys and a searchable database of the Analog
Heaven archives - a highly recommended resource! Check out the synth
collaboration CD featuring Mark and 8 other keyboardists and an
amazing array of vintage gear. A must visit for those interested
in the Waldorf Q and the new "Moog" too. Also, if there's
nothing good on TV, watch Mark at work on his workcam...
Synthony -
This is Synthony's Synth Museum page - lotsa info on lotsa synths.
Korg MS Synthesizers
- Web Site - I love this kind of web site. Small niche site
that is clearly focused on providing information, resources, and
images on all things Korg MS (MS-20, MS-10, MS-50, etc.). If you
need info on one of these great synths then look no further.
DareDevils Jupiter
and Juno Site - This is a small web site, but very handy to
owners of a Roland Juno-106 or Roland Jupiter-6. It contains downloadable
manuals, factory presets, service manuals and diagnostic procedures
for these fine instruments.
Korg Mono/Poly - Web Site
- A great new site I've been introduced to dealing with all things
Mono/Poly.

the beautiful blue...

VX600 Site - A rare synth gets its due on this very informative
and well laided out niche site.
Iotech - Here's a great
link if you are looking for factory presets on vintage synthesizers
- many downloadable files.
Synth Services - A great
guy name Tom Moravansky is one half the collective force of this
helpful website. Synth Services provides what else but synth services
- repair, modifications, new patches, manuals and more.
Obsolete - Now
here's a one of a kind site. If you really want to dig VERY deep
into synth history, you can't do better than this. A ton of info
on very old electronic music making gear your never knew existed
plus more "current" vintage gear from the '60s, '70s and
'80s.
Vintage Synthesizer Explorer
- Images, audio clips, reviews and information on Vintage Synthesizers.
Pretty straight forward and one of the better looking sites with
good general info on synths. Each synth has links to other related
synths - a nice touch.
Mark Glinsky
- An amazing collection of just about every manual and service manual
of most every vintage synth. Mark charges a small and reasonable
fee and sends photocopies of the manuals. Only problem is, sometimes
Mark seems to change his mind, and stops doing the service, then
sometimes he's back to doing it - hopefully he's doing it upon your
visit.
RetroSynth -
A site about retro synths, of course.
Analogue Modular
Systems, Inc. - "One of the largest stocks of vintage analogue
synths in the world." They also specialize in locating hard
to find synths. Don't expect to get bargains here as you pay more
for their extended professional services, but many times it's worth
it as you get what you pay for. They also have a synth museum that
is open to the public.
Keyboard Magazine Online
- An extension of the printed pages of Keyboard magazine.
FAQ
- An amazing list of links to everything synthesizer...
Trade Safe - If you plan
on doing any purchasing, trading or buying over the internet, then
take a few minutes to first visit this site as it could save you
from getting ripped off.
Big Briar - Robert Moog's
newest company which specializes in Theremins and Midi retrofits
for the Minimoog among other things.
Synth Fool - Kevin Lightner's
web site. Kevin is an all around nice guy/synth guru who also repairs
and rebuilds modular synths of music celebs and normal folks. Kevin
is always highly recommended for is tech work.
The Synthesizer Museum
- An excellent web site deicated to vintage synthesizers. Visit
regularly for their synth of the week pick.
Synthcom - If these guys
ever get finished with their Europa product, there will be much
rejoicing among Roland Jupiter-6 owners.
MoogCE - An ex-Moog tech I
believe, who keeps the Moog flame burning. Not associated with some
of the other Moog names floating around.
Mike's
MiniMoog Manual Replicas - Online Minimoog Manuals!
SynthTech/MOTM - Want a
new modular synthesizer? Of course you do. Go here to get quality
MOTM modular synth gear - in DIY kits or in pre-built and tested
form.
JKJ Electronics

Kenton Electronics
- CV to Midi convertors here too....
Encore
Electronics - CV to Midi convertors here as well....
Moog
Synthesizer - Informative site on old Moog modular synths and
how to use them.
PAiA Electronics - Excellent
source of Do It Yourself (DIY) kits. A good starting point if you're
looking to get involved in the electronics of your gear.

to continue to support Sequential synths such as the Prophet-5.
They feature replacement parts, midi kits, accessaries and refurbished
synths.

- This is the company that sells the SE-1 analog rack synth (very
close to a Minimoog with midi and memories), among other cool gear
(ATC-1).
Moog Net

a classified site for all things Moog. My thumbs up to the guy who
put this site together.

current stuff Buchla is up to as well as a wealth of info and photos
on Buchla's historical synth past.

Another DIY site for the budding synth electrician. This site features
schematics to home built analog synths to modifications for PAiA

Deals".

- lots of them actually.
Analog
Cottage - SEM modification - Got some spare Oberheim SEMs lying
around? Go here and beef them up.
Books on Vintage Synths:
"Keyfax
Ominbus Edition" by Julian Colbeck. - Features the
top 100 synths of all time, historical background on the synths
and their manufacturers, technical info and more.
Jetboy's book review: A very good referance book for those interested
in vintage synths. Has good overview's and statisics on many of
the classics. Not as indepth as Vintage Synthesizers by Mark Vail
and features some questionable "Top 100" synthesizer choices
(Roland MT-32 but not Jupiter-6??). However, most Top 100 entries
feature photos of instruments (although many are overly cropped),
but if you're into vintage synths then it's a must read. I enjoyed
it. Plus if you keep it in the bathroom, each synth overview will
cover a sitting, allowing it to be enjoyed for a full 100 sittings!
- And that doesn't count the synth manufacturer profiles and extensive
buyer's guide index. Click on the link to purchase it from this
site.
"Vintage
Synthesizers" by Mark Vail. - Features history of Synths,
descriptions, prices and trivia.
Jetboy's book review: Great book for Vintage Synths! Extensive
info on the classics and lots of black and white and color pictures.
Features a good amount of coverage on odd ball and ahead of there
time synths that never made it to commercial production (Con Brio,
E-mu Audity, PPG Realizer, etc.). Somewhat herky-jerky in it's delivery
at times as it is written by various writers at different times,
but it is always very entertaining. Another must have for synth
junkies. Click on the link to purchase it from this site.
"A to Z" series by Peter Forrest - Hailed by many
as the best guide to vintage synthesizers. Broken down into two
volumes.
